Can Feng Shui improve our sleep?

Answer: Of course it can!

The first step of a Feng Shui home assessment is determining the best direction for you to get a good night sleep.

You don’t need a doctor to tell you that sleep is a central region to our health and well-being.  Prolonged periods of sleep deprivation or insomnia have been linked to irritability, vacantness, anxiety, weight gain and even depression. Additionally, recent studies have also indicated that there is an elevated risk of cardiac diseases, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure and cancer.

Those who sleep well are more tolerant and stable in their moods. After a good night’s rest, they have a better chance to avoid accidents, which is a common occurrence among those who are sleep deprived.

How can you apply Feng Shui for a good night sleep?

1.    Bed Placement

From an expert’s perspective, your bed should not be located near a door or window in the bedroom.  These openings allow Qi to enter the room and the bed can block the flow. If you have no option, you can use a decorative screen or shades and curtains between your bed and windows.

It is also not advised to have your bed directly facing the bedroom as this will affect your thought processes when you lie down in bed. A recommended place to position the bed is up against a wall.

2.    Room Allocation

Choose your bedroom in a welcome part of the house. This can be determined by its Face or Sitting. The classification of East to West property types is applied to residential properties. For example, if your property is a ‘West’ type, it is recommended that you allocate your bedrooms in the West section of the house. The same applies for ‘East’ type properties and so forth.

To get in sync with your home, use a compass – and the table below – to improve your sleep:
